Octavian Conquers Egypt

A republic dies and an empire is born

Octavian's forces defeated the combined armies of Mark Antony and Cleopatra at Alexandria, establishing Roman Egypt and bringing the Ptolemaic dynasty to its knees. Antony and Cleopatra both chose suicide over capture, and Octavian, soon to be renamed Augustus, stood alone as master of the Roman world and founder of the Roman Empire.

In Brisbane, Australia, Otto Nothling was born with rare dual sporting talent.
