Olympic sprinter turned governor-general

In Wanganui, New Zealand, Arthur Porritt was born with both athletic and intellectual gifts. He won an Olympic bronze medal in the 100-meter sprint at the 1924 Paris Games alongside Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams. He became a distinguished military surgeon and was appointed the first New Zealand-born Governor-General of his country.
