Rome celebrates its new master

Octavian held the first of three consecutive triumphs in Rome, celebrating his victory over the Dalmatian tribes. The spectacle of captured treasure, bound prisoners, and marching legions parading through the streets announced that a new era had begun. Octavian, soon to be known as Augustus, was consolidating his power over a republic he would transform into an empire.

Deutschland Sets Speed Record

The fastest ship on the Atlantic

The German steamer SS Deutschland of the Hamburg America Line set a new record for the eastward Atlantic crossing when it docked at Plymouth, completing the voyage from New York in five days, eleven hours, and forty-five minutes. The record broke its own previous mark by over three hours, cementing Germany's engineering excellence during the golden age of ocean liners.
