Rome's most infamous ruler enters the world

In Antium along the Italian coast, Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus was born, the future Emperor Nero. His mother Agrippina's relentless ambition would place him on the imperial throne at sixteen. His reign began promisingly but descended into tyranny, artistic excess, and the great fire of Rome. His suicide in 68 AD ended the Julio-Claudian dynasty and plunged Rome into civil war.
