Caesarion Was Born

The son of Caesar and Cleopatra enters the world

In Alexandria, Cleopatra VII gave birth to Ptolemy XV Caesar, known as Caesarion -- 'Little Caesar' -- the only known biological son of Julius Caesar. The child represented the union of Rome's most powerful man and Egypt's last great pharaoh. After his parents' deaths, the teenage Caesarion briefly ruled as Egypt's last pharaoh before being executed on Octavian's orders. His murder ensured that Caesar's adopted heir, the future Augustus, would face no rival claimant to the great dictator's legacy.

Blanche Noyes Was Born

A trailblazer of women's aviation takes flight

In Cleveland, Ohio, Blanche Noyes was born -- a pilot who would become one of the most accomplished female aviators of the golden age of flight. Her victory in the 1936 Bendix Trophy Race -- a grueling transcontinental speed competition -- proved that women could compete with men in the most demanding tests of aviation skill and endurance. She went on to work for the Civil Aeronautics Administration, advancing air safety and navigation for decades.
