Nero Marries Octavia
A political marriage seals a dynasty's fate
In the imperial palace, the young Emperor Nero married Claudia Octavia, daughter of his predecessor Emperor Claudius. The marriage was a political arrangement orchestrated by Nero's ambitious mother Agrippina, designed to legitimize the young emperor's rule. But the union would prove tragically loveless. Nero would later divorce and exile Octavia, then have her murdered -- one of the many acts of cruelty that would define his reign and earn him eternal infamy.
