Southern Yan Dynasty Falls

A rogue kingdom crumbles before Jin forces

The capital of Guanggu fell to the Jin dynasty general Liu Yu, bringing the Southern Yan dynasty to a decisive end. The Southern Yan, a Xianbei-led state in northern China, had survived only a few tumultuous years before being overwhelmed by Liu Yu's military genius. The conquest consolidated Jin control over a wider swath of China and demonstrated Liu Yu's growing power, foreshadowing his eventual founding of the Liu Song dynasty.
