A rebel magistrate would forge a nation

Ly Bon was born in the territory then under Chinese Liang dynasty control. He would rise from local magistrate to revolutionary leader, founding the Early Ly dynasty and becoming Vietnam's first emperor under the name Ly Nam De. His establishment of the kingdom of Van Xuan represented one of Vietnam's earliest assertions of independence from Chinese rule.

In the Netherlands, Cornelie Caroline van Asch van Wijck was born into Dutch nobility. Known affectionately as Cox, she would become a talented artist and sculptor, studying under master Toon Dupuis. Though her life was tragically brief, ending at just thirty-two, her sculptures captured a creative spirit that burned intensely in the Dutch art world of the interwar years.
