Rome's greatest warrior-emperor enters the world

In Italica, a Roman colony in Hispania, Marcus Ulpius Traianus was born. He would become Emperor Trajan, under whose rule the Roman Empire reached its maximum territorial extent. The first emperor born outside Italy, Trajan was declared optimus princeps, the best of rulers, a title no successor would ever match.

Seewoosagur Ramgoolam was born in Mauritius. He would become the architect of Mauritian independence, serving as the island's only chief minister, first prime minister, and fifth governor-general. Affectionately known as 'Chacha,' he guided the small Indian Ocean nation from colonial status to sovereignty, earning his place as the father of his country.

The Korean War was an armed conflict on the Korean peninsula between North Korea and South Korea and their allies. North Korea was supported by China and the Soviet Union, while South Korea was supported by the United Nations Command (UNC) led by the United States. The war, which ended in stalemate, was the first great clash of arms of the Cold War and was one of, if not its deadliest proxy war.
