After succeeding Trajan as emperor the previous year, Hadrian finally made his grand entrance into Rome, the city that would serve as the symbolic heart of his reign. The new emperor, who would become known for his extensive travels and ambitious building projects including the Pantheon and his namesake wall in Britain, arrived to consolidate power and begin reshaping the empire in his image.
