New Emperor of Wei
Cao Rui inherits a kingdom at war
Cao Rui succeeded his father as emperor of the state of Wei, one of the Three Kingdoms that divided China in the tumultuous third century. Though only twenty-one at his accession, the young emperor proved a capable ruler, successfully defending Wei against invasions by its rivals Shu Han and Wu. His reign, though cut short by illness, demonstrated that even in an age of warlords and chaos, effective governance could preserve a kingdom through the storms of civil war.
