Three emperors try to end Rome's civil wars
At the ancient legionary fortress of Carnuntum on the Danube, the retired Emperor Diocletian met with Galerius and Maximianus in a desperate attempt to resolve the civil wars tearing the Roman Tetrarchy apart. The conference, convened amid the ruins of a once-mighty garrison town, represented the last serious effort to salvage Diocletian's grand experiment in shared imperial power.
