Emperor Claudius died under mysterious circumstances in Rome, almost certainly poisoned, most likely by his ambitious wife Agrippina. Rather than his biological son Britannicus, it was his adopted son Nero who ascended to the imperial throne. At just sixteen, Nero inherited the most powerful position in the known world, beginning a reign that would end in infamy.
