Domitian Takes the Throne

The last Flavian emperor ascends in Rome

The Roman Senate confirmed Domitian as emperor to succeed his brother Titus, completing the Flavian dynasty's hold on power. The last of the Flavians, Domitian would prove an efficient but autocratic ruler whose fifteen-year reign ended with his assassination. Ancient historians portrayed him as a tyrant, though modern scholarship has partially rehabilitated his reputation.
