Emperor Vitellius Was Born
The doomed ruler of the Year of Four Emperors
Aulus Vitellius was born into a prominent Roman family, destined for a throne he would hold only briefly. During the Year of the Four Emperors, his legions proclaimed him emperor in Germania, and he marched on Rome. But his reign lasted just eight months before Vespasian's forces captured the capital. Vitellius was killed and his body thrown into the Tiber.
